Amy Castillo, Ph.D.

Dr. Amy Castillo has been working for the Houston Forensic Science Center since its establishment in 2014. She is now serving as director of Methods and Validation. Dr. Castillo first worked as a criminalist for HPD’s Crime Laboratory and became a supervisor in July 2013. She helped oversee the elimination of the city’s backlog of untested sexual assault kits. Dr. Castillo holds several patents and is an expert in semen and blood identification, differential extraction, amplification of forensic DNA and other scientific methods related to forensic biology. She completed her doctoral degree in biochemistry at the University of Houston.
