Sandra Guerra Thompson serves as the board’s vice chairwoman. Ms. Thompson is a University of Houston Law Center professor and director of the school’s Criminal Justice Institute. A graduate of Yale Law School, Thompson has won many awards, including the 2009 Hispanic Business Magazine’s Top 25 Women of Vision Award. Ms. Thompson has written books and articles about discrimination, wrongful convictions and eyewitness misidentification. In 2015, Ms. Thompson’s book, “Cops in Lab Coats: Curbing Wrongful Convictions through Independent Forensic Laboratories,” was published by Carolina Academic Press. She formerly worked as a prosecutor in Manhattan’s New York County District Attorney’s Office.
